Is there anyone who doesn’t enjoy breakfast in bed? It’s one of life’s small pleasures. Whether you’re treating yourself or you are lucky enough to have it brought to you, in the moment you can forget about what’s waiting outside the bedroom door and enjoy a moment of self-indulgence. One of my favorite aspects is the idea of bringing the table — decor and all — to the comfort of your bed covers. It’s essential to have something green from the garden placed in a vase along with napkins, condiments and any other sundries you may need. A serving tray is a necessity! Try making this one as a subtle hint to a loved one, or just to remind yourself to spend a few more slow mornings enjoying breakfast in bed. —Fran
Materials
- Pine wood sheet about 1/2″ thick
- 1/2″ Wooden dowel
- 2 Cupboard handles
- Saw
- Drill
- Wood glue
- Felt
- Sanding paper
Steps
1. Measure and mark where to drill the holes for the handles. Keep them in the center of the wood base and 1″ from the edge. Do this at both ends.
2. Drill the holes slightly bigger than the screws, but smaller than the handle stem diameter at the points you previously marked.
3. Screw the handles onto the base.
4. Measure out and mark 4 x 2″ increments along the dowel. Try to be as accurate as possible to keep the tray level. Use a saw to cut through the dowel at these points. You will now have 4 legs for your tray.
5. Sand any rough edges from the legs and glue into each corner of the base on the opposite side to the handles.
6. Cut out 4 small circles of felt the same size of the dowel and glue onto the ends of the feet.
Leave everything to dry overnight and you’ll be ready to load up your tray and head back under the duvet in the morning!
