PAX shabby colourful look By: felix

shabby

You just need:

different acyl colors (water based)

black and brown spray

brushes

and boxes to mix

You start with spraying in the corners

Then you paint the first base (any color) especially in the corners

Then you paint everything (like on the photo)

After that you paint again (when it was dry) with colors like on the photo

For the details you take a brown aryl and you just touch the edges

If you want you can stick first some paper on the ground

or you spray on paper edges to have a special look

I mixed the colors! It was fun!

I will change the doorknobs later

Kitchen drawers changing table By: Dirk

ikeahack 5

Changing tables are never the exact size you want and often have very flimsy drawers. Rationell drawers on the other end come in all different sizes and with the soft close are perfect for a changing table. Good quality too. Using 2 Ikea kitchen cabinets, 5 rationell drawers and some plywood I (with the help of a good friend) made this changing table in an afternoon.

NEDDA back to rug By: Jane

P1030046

I believe NEDDA once was a carpet flooring or something. Now it’s time to return back to rug.

Just sew with the largest zig-zag stitches as many NEDDA as you wish, they are 34×34, so 8 was enough for me.

Paint Stirrer BILLY Bookcase Makeover By: Charlotte

ikea hack 2

We had a plain white Billy bookcase in our bathroom and I wanted to change the looks. For free. I collected paint stirrers and glued them all onto the sides of the shelf using Gorilla Glue.

Next, I stained the stirrers an aged gray color. I went back over the stain with some white wash and a dry brush. Finally, I taped off the triangular pattern, and filled in the design by hand. What a difference some free supplies can make!

Chopped up Tjusig Welly Rack By: Deb L

Materials: Tjusig Shoe Rack

This was a fairly simple hack once I’d found the right product to hack for the idea I had in mind. I was tired of wellies and crocs hanging around outside my doorways, and couldn’t find a ready-made welly rack that matched the style of the house so I hacked away!

One TJUSIG shoe rack makes two welly racks. I made 2 identical welly racks but this doesn’t need to be the case. As shown in the photos I cut the metal bars/poles of the original shoe rack. There are 10 bars in total and I cut each one a third of the way along which resulted in 10 medium length poles and 10 small poles. I used five of each pole for each welly rack. I assembled the original side pieces as per the instructions – which then became my rack bases.

These racks can be made without using anything extra than what comes in the box but I chose to add some little white plastic nail-in feet (like the sort you can put under furniture legs to stop them scratching your floor) to try to keep the wood clean, dry and off the ground. I have these welly racks outside my front door and kitchen door but they are under a porchway so protected quite a bit from the weather.

I recommend if you plan to use these outside, not under shelter, then you add a coat of varnish/clear paint to make them last longer. In fact they would work better not under a shelter because the rain could wash the muddy boots :-)

Top entrance litter box with Sortera By: bmathilde

Just a modest but cheap hack…

I discovered the existence of top entrance litter boxes on this very website. They are quite hard to find and expensive to order here in France. And, well, there’s no way we could have been sure beforehand that our Ulysse would agree to use one of those because, you know…well, he’s a cat…and as such does only as he pleases ;o).

So we bought a Sortera box. We made a round-shaped hole in the lid, simply using a drill (don’t hesitate to make a lot of holes, with only a few millimetres between each), a small saw and sandpaper.Using double-sided tape, we added some carpet so that the cat would leave most of the litter on it while leaving, and not scatter on the floor what’s stuck under his paws (not having litter on the floor being the main interest of a top entrance litter box).

Here it is…and our cat has been using it for 2 weeks without complaining !
