Lighting fixtures almost never take center stage in home decor because we have so many other things to be focus on, like furniture, rugs and artwork. But as this DIY project will prove, a little creativity goes a long way toward making something formerly overlooked become the star of a room. This project is all about finding more ways to add plants to your home by combining the idea of a hanging planter with a beautiful pendant lamp! This would be a great way to add some accent lighting to a dark part of your room while giving a light-loving-plant some time in the spotlight, both literally and figuratively. So, let’s get started! –Mette Jakobsen
Materials
– Round Bowl/ Sphere storage, or to similar bowls
– Wood block
– Thine wire
– Light fixture, socket and LED bulb
– Drill
– Two different drill bits, one that fits the lamp cord and another drill for the wire holes
– Pliers
Step 1: Drilling Hole For The Cord
– Place the top bowl on the wood block and drill a hole in the center for the cord.
Step 2: Drilling Holes For The Wire
Change drill bit and drill three holes for the wire – and do the same with the bottom bowl.
Step 3: Cutting The Wire
– Cut three equal lengths of wire.
Step 4: Threading The Cord
– Thread the lamp cord through the hole in the top bowl
Step 5: Combining Top and Bottom
Combine top and bottom bowl by threading the wire though top and bottom holes. Simply twist the wire to secure it.
Now just add your soil and plant and voilà! There you have it – a quick fix to bring a simple corner of your home back to life.
Plants decorations really make our homes fresher and greener in more than one way. Now it’s up to you to choose a plant for your plant-friendly pendant, or if you’re creating this for your home office you can use is as a sassy storage for your bits and bobs.
The floating look is like an optical illusion, yet one that is kind to the eyes and easy on the mind.
