NORDEN Sofa Table turned kids’ creativity centre By: ultraviolet32

Materials: NORDEN

I was getting so frustrated with the kids’ art material constantly populating our dining table at dinner time that I decided to turn a barely used corner of our office into their art nook. I knew I needed something with storage to keep the clutter at bay so a simple table would not have been enough.

After much debating and web surfing for the perfect table to use I came across the Ikea Norden sofa table. The dimensions didn’t quite line up with the space and it was also way too high for the kids to use while sitting on a little chair.

I already had a Bergsbo book case permanently affixed to the wall and wanted to make the art centre fit in seamlessly, looking like a custom fit built in.

So I cut 5 inches off each side of the Norden table top (to keep the existing screw holes centred) and also cut each leg 8 inches shorter.

A very inexpensive Bygel rail and containers complete the centre and hold pencils, crayons, scissors and other art supplies. Two picture lamps mounted to the wall provide lighting at night.

Et voilá! The kids have been using their art centre for hours every single day and absolutely love it. And I love the fact that my dining table can be used for dining again
