Over the past seven years, Design*Sponge has shared over 1,000 home tours online. When I first started posting homes in 2007, I only shared a single image at a time because I wasn’t sure anyone would be interested in them. The first post was a look at artist Amy Ruppel’s entryway and it was immediately followed by requests for more. So for two years I researched and contacted homeowners on my own, sharing their photos at a leisurely pace. Cut to five years later and now home tours are the most requested content at Design*Sponge and we have a team of three people (Amy, Shannon and Anne) who send out hundreds of emails a week to find three beautiful homes to share each week. For a team with a small budget and no traveling staff photographers or photo editors, I feel incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished and the depth of homes we’ve been able to share. A few years ago when we redesigned the site, we took six months to cross tag every single home tour by style, location, rent vs. own, size and individual rooms we felt were standouts. When I flip through these categories what I’m struck most by is the global connection between home owners, readers and the creative community. Home tours have lead to work collaborations, new product designs, new relationships and friendships that have lasted our team many many years.
To celebrate our 10th anniversary at D*S we’re bringing on a few new team members to help us expand our reach and find homes, studios and workspaces that will inspire everyone reading. From beautiful backyard painting sheds in Australia to minimal lofts in Sweden and traditional homes in Massachusetts, we want to find someone who enjoys hunting down gorgeous spaces as much as we do. So we’re hiring a Sneak Peek Intern (paid, of course)! If you’re someone who naturally hunts down great spaces all day, we want to work with you. Do you follow link after link down rabbit holes to figure out what great space something was photographed in? Are you active on social media, following creative accounts that lead to great home tour recommendations? Then you’re our type of team member. You don’t need to live in the US, you just need to have 2 hours a day to help our team research, send emails and follow up to get great photos and text from home owners.
