We bought a Slähult table top from the as-is department and fastened it to the top of our existing Expedit shelf unit to make a kitchen island for our new-to-us home. (We plan to re-do the kitchen in Grimslöv but in the mean time we needed more counter space!)
To fasten the top to the shelf unit, we straightened out 4 Vågen curtain rod brackets we had left over from a previous project to an L-shape, then screwed the top & shelf unit together.
