Kitchen cabinets into pimped out storage catch all By: Valerie

I needed something to hold my clutter so I took 2 Ikea kitchen wall cabinets and placed them on a Lillangen base.

I then dressed them up in recycled timber. I just took old timber, nailed them onto thin mdf boards and screwed them onto the cabinets. I also sprayed the boards with a clear gloss paint.

Easy peasy!

Kitchen After

So we redid our kitchen about 2 years ago, but we only put up one line of kitchen tiles (because the store had only one box at the time) and we said that when we have time we would put the rest up…(Lol) 2 years later… that never happened.

Kitchen before

Due to the fact that I get bored of things very quickly I thought I might DIY it.

Yesterday, I started painting and thought I would paint some flowers or shapes… but who am I kidding… I can’t draw even if my life counted on it….

I got so frustrated about it, I just left it and said “I’ll do it in the next 2 years”.

Got up this morning, and as I was having a cup of coffee, I saw my place mats… IDEA!!! Off to Ikea I go…

I found these striped black and silver place mats which were perfect (and only for 0.99 euro!!!)

What I did was to get the place mats (Total of 10 for my kitchen) and cut them down to the exact size of the space between the tiles and the upper cabins, and stuck double sided the tape (you can also use a glue gun or silicone) on the back and onto the wall.

And here we have the finished project! Hope you like!!!

Kitchen siply's

It’s so easy, no tiles, no mess, no fuss and it only took me an hour to do.

The best 3 things about this Hack:

1. It’s Cheap!!! (each mat cost 0.99 euro at Ikea and I already had the tape and the scissors) Total cost: 9.90 Euro.

2. Very easy to clean… chuck them into the dish washer and stick them back on the wall (you can’t do that with tiles can you???)

3. If and when I get bored of the pattern or colors, just make a quick visit to Ikea and get new place mats.

Ikea Kitchen Island as a Mobile Workshop Bench By: Jules IKEAHacker

workbench-ikea-hack-trio1

Materials: Ikea Kitchen Island, 2×4 Pine Boards, 4 Casters

Description: This is a simple hack with lofty aspirations. It simply involves adding casters and a wide wheel base to the bottom of an existing ikea kitchen island to use as a mobile workbench. I designed and built a larger workbench (the lofty part) such that the mobile ikea island can fit within it when not in use. Instructions are simple:

workbench-ikea-hack2

workbench-ikea-hack-duo1

1. Measure and cut a 2×4 board to desired length, minimum of 24″ for caster clearance.

2. Cut two grooves on each board, the exact shape (1.75″ by 1.75″) and location of the ikea legs, such that the board can slide onto the bottom shelf while embracing the legs.

3. Drill a hole and screw one 3″ screw onto each leg to secure the boards.

4. Attach 2″ casters to the each end of the board (4 total). Make sure at least two casters have locking mechanisms to prevent free roaming.

5. Attach auxiliary equipment to the ikea table such as an extension outlet, hooks for hanging towels, vice grips, etc.

6. And done!

See more of the workbench.

Craft Bygel By: Jules IKEAHacker

9342_10151690636967970_1833111082_n-751828

Materials: Bygel Rail, S hooks, Bygel wire basket, Bygel buckets

Description: I was looking for a good way to organize my ribbon and other craft items I needed close at hand over top of my desk. After some Pintrest-ing, I found a great use for the Bygel rail kitchen system – I’ve found it to be very effective in keeping things organized and “put away”, but still accessible when I need it.

I used two of the Bygel rails – one 55cm once and one 100 cm one. I attached them to the wall where I wanted them over my desk. I then attached the wire baskets to them as directed and placed all of my ribbon spools in them. I used to S-hooks for hanging items such as scissors and a paint can opener. The Bygel bucket keep things like writing utensils and paint brushed close at hand. Even some paper punches slide into the top of the rail and I have seen them used exclusively as storage for punches as well.

A simple hack – but incredibly useful in my opinion.

Happy Crafting with your newly organized space!

Simple curtain rod end cap idea By: Jules IKEAHacker

Curtain and caps-790351 wheel and cap off-700940

Materials: Hogad curtain rod, Raffig curtain rod caps

Description: For my sons race car themed bedroom, I took two gray Raffig curtain end caps and with a pair of pliers pried off the rounded portion. (Note: The Raffig end cap is two pieces held together by glue). I then took two Ridemakerz wheels and hollowed them out with an Exacto knife. The wheel and the cap were a perfect fit. Add a little glue.

Hope You Had a Silent Night, Too From Jackie

Today's Inspiration comes from guest blogger Jackie Be sure to check out their blog!

Normally, bedtime is a battle around here. One of us still camps out in the hallway after putting the boys to bed. It is the only way to make sure the mischievous pair aren’t sneaking around or using the shared bathroom between their rooms as a secret passage way.

DIY Holiday Card - Silent Night Kids Pose

I am happy to report the Christmas Eve camp out was brief. After lots of threats that Santa won’t come if they don’t go to sleep, we enjoyed a silent night. And, we didn’t have to tie them up in lights or tape their mouths shut!

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

I will be taking the next few days away from the computer to be with my little men. See you next week!

Here’s to a very Merry Christmas By: Jules IKEAHacker

I wish there is snow where I live! But alas … it’s hot, sweaty and humid. And so green.

I will taking a break from updating this site today to be with family. While I can’t assemble a snow man here, I will be taking time to create happy memories, fun moments (and lots of waist-breaking yummies) with the people I simply adore.

Here’s wishing you a day full of love too. It is D-I-Y (or should I say, D-I-Together) of the highest level.

Enjoy the season and make merry!

Jules
