Radiator Cover from Billy bookcase By: Anne Marriner

20140311_110611

Materials: BILLY bookcase

I’ve been looking for ages for a smart radiator cover for my hall. This design perhaps cuts down on the efficiency of the radiator, but the look is just what I wanted. I designed it to contain some useful shelves, but it could be made narrower by cutting away the rear of the panels and doing away with any shelves.

20140311_110620 20140311_110653 20140311_110709 20140311_110753

I bought a secondhand tall billy bookcase from ebay for £15 (as opposed to £55 new), so it was already assembled. I took the back board off then cut off the top of the carcass 30mm above the middle fixed shelf. I retained one of the cut-off sides (this was used for the top covering shelf of my cupboard).

Next, I needed to create an airflow through the item. So I used a jigsaw to cut part of the front kickplate away, trimmed the shelves to allow the radiator to sit inside the cupboard and again cut a curve on the top undershelf. See pics 653 and 709.

I used the spare dowels from the rejected part of the tall bookcase to fit the top shelf (with a 10mm front overhang and 20mm side overhang). There was a small gap at the back of the shelf to allow further airflow.

Lastly, I fitted the doors (bought new for £70). I also fitted the cupboard to the wall with the brackets provided in the door kits to provide lateral and vertical stability. See pic 753.

There was no need to add any veneer anywhere as my cupboard is left-hand side-on to a wall. But the cut edge of the very top shelf is raw so would need to be covered if in view.

I am so pleased with it I haven’t stopped smiling yet and want to share it with your members.

Shoe Bench By: JennyinOz

Shoe bench

Materials: MOLGER bench

Sanded off the lacquer and applied one light coat of white undercoat with a brush, followed by two coats of matt sealer.

Baskets were $30 each at Aussie Target and I had the cushion made to size.

Kalas Kolorfull Quizbuttons By: Sebastian

quiz2

I’ve used Kalas bowls and plates to construct Quiz-buzzers for my classroom. With a bit of wood and buttons from an old keyboard. The pictures should tell nearly enough. I connected it all to a Velleman MK133 quiz-kit (well, I made my own based on their schematic).

quiz1

Short story:

- Kalas bowl and plate

- piece of wood 12x12cm

- piece of broomstick (about 3cm)

- piece of foam insulation

- button

- LED

- Wire (I used old UTP patchcables)

- Screw

Drill holes in the center of the plate and wood. Drill some more holes (see pictures, can’t really describe it in words…). Connect the LED, screw the broomstick to the piece of wood, glue the button on top. Glue the foam to the Kalas bowl and you are done!

I’m really sorry, i communicate better through pictures. Use those! For the whole story in dutch, check out my blog.

Standing Work/Illustration Station By: Shelby Goelz

Materials: EXPEDIT, LINNMON table top, OLOV adjustable legs

After assembling the Expedit shelving unit and placing the felt pads underneath for easy movement, I attached 2 Olov adjustable table legs to what would be the front of a 59″ Linmon table top. The legs were extended to their maximum height to provide stability for the table top.

I purchased a pack of L-Brackets from Lowe’s to prevent the table top from slipping off of the Expedit shelf, and fastened them from the bottom of the table top to the back of the shelving unit.

This unit provides ample work space and TONS of storage for every art related thing you can imagine.

Dachshund ramp Ikeahack By: Louis

Materials: RAST bedside table, EKBY JARPEN shelf, BORRIS door mats x 2

It was finally time (after procrastinating for years), to put together ramp for Chiro our Dachshund.

First we attached hinges to the (unbuilt) side of the RAST table, doing this allows you to build the table first.

Hinges screwed in, it was time to build the RAST table. Very simple and straightforward build, just line everything up and pop in all the screws.

Side table built, we flipped it upside down to measure and mark out where to attach the hinges on the EKBY shelf. With the areas to attach screws marked, we used a power drill to make small indentations so the screws will line up better.

Once all the screws are attached, just flip everything the right side up. It’s almost done!

Cut up the BORRIS door mats to make 3 separate small placemats with nice rounded edges, just use the sides of the door mat as a template and mark out where cutting is needed.

Once that is done, use contact glue and carefully place the already-cut door mats onto the shelf. Leave it for a few hours for the glue to dry and all done! We also affixed some floor protection studs on the base of the ramp and table.

NORDEN Sofa Table turned kids’ creativity centre By: ultraviolet32

image

Materials: NORDEN

I was getting so frustrated with the kids’ art material constantly populating our dining table at dinner time that I decided to turn a barely used corner of our office into their art nook. I knew I needed something with storage to keep the clutter at bay so a simple table would not have been enough.

After much debating and web surfing for the perfect table to use I came across the Ikea Norden sofa table. The dimensions didn’t quite line up with the space and it was also way too high for the kids to use while sitting on a little chair.

I already had a Bergsbo book case permanently affixed to the wall and wanted to make the art centre fit in seamlessly, looking like a custom fit built in.

So I cut 5 inches off each side of the Norden table top (to keep the existing screw holes centred) and also cut each leg 8 inches shorter.

A very inexpensive Bygel rail and containers complete the centre and hold pencils, crayons, scissors and other art supplies. Two picture lamps mounted to the wall provide lighting at night.

Et voilá! The kids have been using their art centre for hours every single day and absolutely love it. And I love the fact that my dining table can be used for dining again

How about a drawer for BILLY (and LACK)? By: SD Cr8

002x 071x

SD (Space Drawer).

Materials: BILLY, LACK

Something I made for BILLY (which also works with LACK).

Been working on this for a while and am really pleased with it. You can visit my website (sd-cr8.net) which has many pictures showcasing the SD.

Self made/designed. Works a treat for small-item storage and fits well into the BILLY and LACK’s look, looks virtually a standard.

003x

There are also other add-ons – Page-Hi and the Pender.

Makes a great present for BILLY’s 35th.

Thanks for viewing,

SD
