Modern, but not cold in New York By: Amy Azzarito

A Peace Treaty is one of my favorite online shops (Caftans, yes please!) – I love their mission of creating employment for artisans around the world. So I jumped at the chance to peek into the Chinatown home of co-founder Dana Arbib. When Dana found the apartment a little over a year ago, she enlisted the help of Lauren Stern Design to assist in making the most of amazing light in this apartment. Because the space was so light and bright, Dana took it as an opportunity to seriously declutter, in order to make her home feel like a mini vacation from the color and patterns that she is surrounded by at work. They created a space that feels modern yet handmade – just like what Dana does with A Peace Treaty. -Amy

Image above: “ALL WHITE EVERYTHING,” Dana says. “My cousin Hila is studying fashion in Barcelona and I begged her to go pick up these wall weavings from an artist there named Belen Senra (Ran Ran Designs). She had to bring them to NYC in her suitcase for me. That’s what family is for!”

Image above: “My family is addicted to auctions in Canada where there are a lot of good, cheap antiques available. I purchased this dining table for $300 at an auction there and a father/son team drove it all the way to NYC! It weighs 1,000 pounds but I love it.”

A Day In The Life of Kathleen Whitaker By: Grace Bonney

In my dream life, my dresser is covered with a small collection of Kathleen Whitaker jewelry. Her delicate but edgy jewelry is always at the top of my wishlist and her Instagram feed has become one of my favorite places to go for inspiration. She regularly posts beautiful fine art exhibitions, sculpture, ceramics and gorgeous snapshots from her life in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. Today she’s giving us a peek inside her daily life, including time at the beach, packing up jewelry to be mailed and heading to the jewelry district. Turn “picture holder” RIBBA into coffee capsules holder By: Stefanie

What I used:

- 1 picture frame (RIBBA)

- thick cardboard from IKEA (maybe from paper container)

- green wrapping paper from IKEA (FRAMSTÄLLA)

What else I needed:

- box knife

- tape

- ruler

- compass

- self-adhesive plastic foil

What I did:

1) Take everything out of the frame. Use the wooden back or the glass, to draw the outline on the thick cardboard. Cut the cardboard and make sure it fits in the frame. You will not need the glass….

2) Measure coffee capsule and do some math

My capsules are 4,4cm. I drew 4×9 5cm squares on the back of the cardboard (used ruler here) and with the help of the compass I made 3,5cm circles. I made the circles slightly smaller than the capsules, so they wouldn’t fall through!

3) Cut all holes from cardboard using box knife.

4) Lay out self-adhesive foil and put the green wrapping paper on it. Cover the cardboard with the now waterproof green wrapping paper.

5) Cut 36 holes in wrapper. I did this by poking a hole in the middle and cutting 8 lines to the outer rim of the cardboard holes.

6) Put the wrapped cardboard in the RIBBA frame, tighten with the metal flaps on the RIBBA.

7) TADA!

Calico Wallpaper’s Abergine Wallpaper By: Maxwell Tielman

Formed in 2012 by friends Rachel Mosler and Nick Cope, Calico Wallpaper is a company that defies preconceived notions of what wallpaper is and how it is made. A far cry from the repeating toile patterns and repeating floral motifs often found in mass-market papers, the designs produced by Moser and Cope are based on handcrafted, one-of-a-kind designs, drawn from centuries of craft techniques and artistic traditions. For their Abergine wallpaper, created in late 2013, the Calico team used ancient marbling methods to create a design that is at once classic and extraordinarily unique. A design that certainly walks the line between decor and fine art, the paper is a breathtaking, sumptuous and utterly new take on a traditional idea. APA Park, Model Railway in an APA Box By: Steve Purves

Materials: APA Box, LEDBERG lights

Removing the front panel from an APA box creates a handy size self contained baseboard for a model railway project. add a new base to box out of 9mm plywood on one inch square block and you are ready to lay track. I used the lid to create ‘off scene’ storage and joined this to the main box using toggle catches. The Railway is fully operational and uses N scale off the shelf products and is the current (2014) holder of the N Gauge society ‘Graham Farish Trophy’ for the best portable layout.

The LEDBERG lighting unit can be fixed along the top support to provide adequate lighting in the box once complete
