A gardner from the beginning, Isabelle knew she wanted to share her passion for planting and growing with others. In the past, she had created her own green oasis on her small balcony and decided that she would help others create the same by offering ready-made container gardens, and most recently, by releasing her first book, The House Gardener . The Balcony Garden now offers all the resources you need for starting and maintaing your own terrace or balcony garden, and today Isabelle is sharing a bit about how she went from idea to business. –Stephanie

A place for my bike By: MAX

Materials: single BESTA / double BESTA / Numerär countertop / RIBBA picture ledge

In order to create a space which could double as storage for my bike as well a place for my iMac, I mounted a regular kitchen countertop on top of some BESTA shelving units. The height fits perfectly. In order to give the countertop a “floating” look, I used a simple plywood board as a spacer (depending on the thickness the height can be adjusted) I used stainless steel screws with drill head, cause the countertop material is rather robust. The tip on fixtures are mounted at the bottom, so the doors can be opened by a gentle push with my foot

For my bike I mounted two RIBBA picture ledges to the wall, to hold the bike I simply used a nylon rope which has a carabiner at one end, so it’s easy to hook it to the eye. It works for every type of bike, the smaller the handlebar is, the less space you need. I used the small picture ledges, which carry up to 5 kilos, so officially the bike should weigh less than 10 kilos – but I guess this construction could support heavier bikes as well (but no guarantees that it will hold).

1 clothes rail (not IVAR)

1. Build 6 shelves with 6 boards and 2 struts into a connected Ivar shelf.

2. Cut the middle board (in the front) to the lower foot and the part of the screw.

3. The shelves are supported by the horizontal boards. These are screwed to the original holes in the shelves, and then cut to the width of the shelf.

4. Attach the clothes rail at three points through the shelves with distance.

A Day In The Life of Taylor Kitto By: Grace Bonney

Like several thousand other people, I’m a huge fan of stylist/photographer/shopkeeper Taylor Kitto‘s Instagram feed. I’ve been happily following her feed and enjoying all of the gorgeous photos she posts of her life and work in San Luis Obispo and her travels in a vintage trailer. Each month Taylor hosts a pop-up shop with her business, Wild Poppy, that showcases not just her goods but the work of other local artists. I love celebrating and learning more about anyone that’s working to help promote other people, so I was excited to peek inside her life in California. From the day-to-day shop duties like packing orders (beautifully, I might add) and hunting for new vintage goods to fun runs on the beach with her dog, Taylor has me wanting to open up a DS branch somewhere sunny and warm. A kitchen in the living room? By: Sabine

I needed a place to store all the toys of my kids. It needed to be exactly 1m wide, and couldn’t find anything within a reasonable budget and tasteful. Then Ikea launched their new Kitchen line: Metod. I’ve grabbed different parts of different kitchens to make the attached. I’m very happy with the result.
