Materials: JOKKMOKK Tabletop, VISDALEN Bookcase

When you have a small living room and urgently need a desk I can show you a very simple and quick hack.

Our old VISDALEN bookcase was perfect for the 30 minute project and so we took a remaining JOKKMOKK tabletop, cut it to the right size (we cut the length and the width from the tabletop is the new length for the desk) and used 2 legs from the former table. That’s all – now the new “bookdesk” is ready for use.

The best thing is that the JOKKMOKK tabletop fits perfectly to the VISDALEN shelves in the bookcase. I think I will paint the legs from the desk in the same white colour.

SNUDDA Candleholder By: Madam Rosmerta

This is not my original idea! I stole the idea from another IKEA hacker. But I loved the idea and so I made a tea light holder with the SNUDDA and wanted to show it to you.

It’s very simple: you took the bottom from the plate, drill holes and put the tea light holders in the holes. Fix the bottom again and finish with oil or paint.

BEKVAM for toothbrushes By: Madam Rosmerta

Materials: BEKVÄM Spice Rack

We urgently needed something for our toothbrushes but I didn’t want to spend money. So I had the idea to take the plastic cups from the Ice Coffee I just drank and glue nice tissues on it. But this couldn’t be all I thought and so I got the idea to use the Bekväm spice rack which I still had leftover in the storage room. Then I decided to paint it white and brown that it will fit to rest of my bathroom furniture (my furniture in the bathroom are the mirror from Visdalen and the washing stand is the Bekväm kitchen island).

Additionally I took a leftover piece of wood, painted it blue and the spice rack was fixed on it after drilling 2 big holes for the cups so they wouldn’t fall over. Don’t forget to mention that I did the vintage look with sand paper on the blue colour (I love this old look).

You also can use the spice rack reversed, so you can hang towels or anything else on it. But there wasn’t enough space.

The pictures will show the single steps and I’m very satisfied with the result. Now I have to build another one for our 2 kids.

New Kitchen Island made of slats By: Madam Rosmerta

Materials: 2 x Sultan LADE, Numerär worktop

I’m really proud of myself because I did this hack with only a little bit of help from my husband.

The first picture shows a part of my kitchen before my hack . I was sure that a new kitchen cabinet had to be there instead of the old racks and the curtain. So I took a Sultan LADE slatted frame and after removing the ribbon I painted the slats in white and red colour (red for the frame and white for the boards). I was very lucky because the slats with 70 cm fitted perfectly and I only have to cut 6 slats (my husband did it for me). When the colour was dry I built my new kitchen cabinet with many screws. Now I still needed a worktop and I remembered that we storaged the piece which we cut-out for the cooker. At that time we bought a Numerär worktop and luckily it fitted perfectly after my husband cut the edges a bit (I sanded it afterwards and used Behandla oil).

The drawers are made from the rest of the LADE pieces which were cut for the shelves before, the bottoms are from old Billy backs. I love the vintage style and so I made it on the drawer fronts (they are not from Ikea, I took 2 pieces of wood which we kept from another project, just as the handles). In the end I fixed 4 castors so I can pull it out from both sides very easily.

Now I still need pretty boxes for the storage of my food processor items and every ideas from you are appreciated!
