Have you picked up your August BHG?? We are seriously crushing on the color orange. This color is so good and so versatile we thought it would be fun to do a little encore for you here! Look at the warmth created in this space!! Don’t you want to snuggle up with a good book in this room?! This is the perfect example of how to experiment with a bold color – start with textiles. Adding a throw blanket and pillows are both great low commitment, low cost ways to try a new color.

Ready to jump right in the deep end? Loving this rich saturated wall. It creates a great focal point in the room and the added architectural detail give the wall some nice dimension. This is a great way to totally change the look of the room and a realistic doable weekend project. If this feels like a big risk, always remember it is just paint! If you don’t like it or when you are ready for a change it is easy to update. You will never know how amazing it will be until you just go for it! :-)

Summer is in full swing. There are many lovely long summer nights filled with cocktails and good company still ahead. Marble marble everywhere. Marble is having a major resurgeance in home decor (did it ever really go away?) and we couldn’t be happier. The thing about marble is it’s timeless, but also grounding and adds a natural element to the home without having to go all out rustic. So how do you add it in without going over board? The key is to use it purposefully. Of course using this wonderful stone in the kitchen and bathroom will always elevate the look of your room. There are also such an amazing range of products out there using marble as a printed pattern. There is just something so nice about adding organic feeling patterns to your space. Oh be still my heart! The shine trend is not reserved for all those metallics we love. High gloss finishes are happening and this color-loving girl could not be happier. I mean, this ceiling? Stop – it’s just too good. But where do I use a high gloss finish? Um, everywhere! The ceiling, interior doors, furniture, the back of your book shelf – incorporate a high gloss finish anywhere and on anything that you want to be a strong focal point in your space. Well placed and used strategically, high gloss finished can work with a range of design styles. This bedroom feels super luxe and also very clean and modern.

Memorial Day is now a collection of sweet memories and you know what that means?? Summer is right around the corner! Let’s talk about a color that is super hot right now – Coral! We are all crushing on coral! What a fantastic, versatile and just plain sweet color! We have been loving all the sweet dusty peachy tones that have dominated both home and accessories (especially paired with mint, right?). How about we turn up the volume a little with full on saturated coral? This color is obviously beyond perfect for summer, but it also has legs year round with the right pairing. Coral works so very well with the popular neutral bases of the moment – black and navy. It adds the perfect zing of warmth to any space. I love this color so much because it can work in both small and big does. It also work brilliantly in both warm and cool color palettes. It has a real balancing effect when used with cool grays for example and of course looks rich and vibrant when used with earthy browns and tans.

Full disclosure. I am a new mom to the most wonderful little boy who is six months old this week. Am I becoming that designer who is now obsessed with all things kids design?? Maybe…a little. Even though I have a background in kidswear design, something changes when you have one of your own. The good news is that design for kids has reached new amazing heights as of late. There are some seriously lucky little people out there! Some of the spaces we see for kids today would be equally amazing for any grown up! This is what I love about the current landscape for kids – there is a new playful sophistication available if you have a more modern aesthetic. These fresh looks are more likely to be able to grow with the little ones and fit into the overall look of the home. Don’t be surprised if the big people in the house find themselves gravitating to these fun spots in the home too!

Pattern drives the core of my design aesthetic (surprise) so let’s talk about all the amazing options available for creating a colorful, pattern filled, and super stylish space that any little person would love. Geometrics for kids are really leading the way. Simple patterns of circles and triangles in fresh colors are great because they are ageless. Executed in fresh colors they are flexible enough to read gender neutral which is a bonus for many families. Woodland and safari themes have turned up the chic factor when expressed in two color or more grown up palettes. There is something intriguing about the juxtaposition of juvenile themes colored in sophisticated palettes.
