The ‘Slim Jim’ Arcade Machine By: Stephen Bell

Wanted a super-slim, portable, tabletop 2-Player ‘Cocktail’ type Arcade machine so I built one based around a 22″ monitor plus a ’60 in 1′ iCade mounted inside two black aluminium IKEA STRÖMBY Picture Frames screwed back to back. Worked very well, is only 42.5mm thick (+5mm inc. rubber feet) and I’m already thinking about rebuilding a new version with a few fancy upgrades

Latt table upgraded By: sleeep

Description: I decided to add shelves on top of the Latt table so that my kid can have more storage area within reach when he’s at the desk.

Looking around, on found that Besta Vara not only have birch options which matches the table design, but also dimensions that matches that of the table pretty well too.

So it’s a matter of assembling the pieces to get the frame as shown in the picture. And to provide even more storage, I hooked a Kusiner to the side.

Two-tier Pragel Workstation By: Ghryswald

I was disappointed by the way many of Ikea’s computer desks felt to me; just too flimsy.

So here’s my new two-tier Pragel workstation.

Ingredients:

2x Pragel 186cm worktop

5x Adils leg

4x Capita bracket

1x Dioder multicolor LED

I cut one Pragel worktop lengthwise about 20cm from the back. This piece became the backboard for mounting power strips. I plan on attaching a small basket or rail behind the backboard for loose cables to dangle into.

The backboard is attached to the rear of the main desktop using screws designed for pressboard. I went with a screw every 30cm or so.

I positioned four of the legs near the corners of the main desktop and the fifth leg centered and near the back to prevent any future bowing of the desk.

The back depth of the upper tier is set about 8cm further back than the rear of the main desktop which provides space behind the backboard for cables to run.

I used four Capita brackets because I wanted two power strips on the backboard and didn’t want the brackets to be in the way.

The Dioder light bars go on the underside of the upper tier.

Custom Capita By: Eli

This may not look very impressive, but I really wish I figured out sooner that the “feet” of the Capita legs can be removed (by simply pulling them out). The legs can then be shortened to your desired length, and the feet pushed back into place. This really helped me out to match the height of some existing kitchen elements.

Since the legs are adjustable, it isn’t critical that you saw them off very accurately to the same length. It’s more important to cut straight.

Ikea Hacked Standing Desk By: gtsabag

For weeks, I’ve been looking at various ideas for “hacking” a standing desk to add to my standard office desk, and last week I finally did it! I didn’t use the LACK table idea because I’m barely 5’5″ and it would be too tall. Instead I took two EKBY MOSSBY stainless steel shelves and added CAPITA stainless legs to make the platforms for the screen and the keyboard. (I used these shelves because the steel is wrapped around all four edges, whereas the wood shelves are unfinished on one long side and I didn’t want to paint).

The taller shelf measures 46 7/8″ x 11″ to which I added four 8″ CAPITA legs and the keyboard rests on the 31 1/8″ x 7 1/2″ shelf plus four 4″ legs. It’s sturdy and sharp looking. Now I just need to get the cushioned mat to stand on and I’ll be set. Love it!

Hacked Expedit storage headboard By: Samantha Kennedy

I used:

Two IKEA Expedit 5 x 1 shelving units in black brown

Four IKEA Expedit draw units in gloss grey

2 bits of MDF – one shelf for the top and one for the actual headboard

4 metres of fabric

51 self-cover buttons

Strong thread

One saw

A power drill

Staple gun and a million staples

Four hinges

First we sawed down the 5 x 1 shelves to make them into 3 x 1 units a better height for the room.

Then we tidied up the tops of both units and attached the MDF shelf (covered in the fabric) using hinges at the back so that we can still reach into the gap between the shelving units once it’s all assembled.

Finally, I used this tutorial to create a diamond tufted headboard and screwed it onto the front of the structure to complete the headboard.

Mushroom lamp By: Stratos Botsaris

This is a lamp made from driftwood and looks like a mushroom. I used a cable from an IKEA lamp, a special piece of driftwood I had found on the beach and my imagination to create it.
