A wood makeover for Lack coffee table By: Jules IKEAHacker

Things we need:

1) Ikea lack table (of course!) – I removed the bottom plank

2) Strong hold glue for wood

3) A Saw (to cut the planks exactly the size of the table top)

4) Wooden planks (I got these from Daiso for $2 each)

5) Hammer and some nails

6) Paints (I tried using acrylics, they worked great!)

7) Acrylic fixative (had one lying at home)

8) A medium to sand the wood planks

Instructions:

1) I started off by sanding the wood planks (the top and sides only);

2) Then I stained the wooden planks (they were the lightest shade of natural wood) with some acrylic paints (I had paints at home and mixed a few different colors to give different stains on every plank; no two planks have the exact same tone of color which is what I wanted). The planks dried up within a few minutes but I let them dry for 2-3 hours;

3) I cleaned the Ikea lack table top and sanded it lightly.

4) I laid out the planks on the top to see what works and used the saw to make any changes in sizes.

5) Then I glued the planks to the table top and put heavy books on it. Let it rest for the night (I was too impatient and only let it rest for 2 hours!)

6) I hammered nails randomly on the table top (I liked the whole industrial look so put the nails in haphazardly)

7) I wanted to give it a personal touch so ‘named’ the table “circa 1984″- wrote it by hand, no stencil, with soft pastels. Then I sprayed with an Acrylic fixative. Three months so far and very roughly used and shows no signs of damage/wear&tear to the color or the hand written name

8) Voila! A new table for the lounge!

Cheers! It’s an Illuminated Bar By: Thomas Herre

We wanted a cool bar for a corner of our “library room” (you remember the Gigantic Expedit-Bookcase?). As all prefab bar-furnitures did not fit our needs and/or were too expensive, we decided to build one of our own.

Step 1: Find a free corner.

Step 2: Buy wall cabinets (because of the lower depth of 33 cm) + interior + legs. For the barkeeper-side we selected the Abstrakt white gloss front. For the barstool-side we got the Askvit glass front doors. We used two 60cm-cabinets and one 40cm-cabinet.

Step 3: Assembling of the cabinet. Bond them to each other with at least 4 screws. The white side of the back board has to be outside!

Step 4: Integration of the drawer. We only connected the lower drawer to the door and used internal drawers for the second level.

Step 5: Anchor it to the wall. Firmly! We used 8 screws, as our drunk friends will lean against the bar!

Step 6: Adjust the workplate. We used one from a DIY-store and had it cut at the store.

Step 7: Prepare the Aksvit doors for the mounting: four 14 mm drillholes in each corner.

Step 8: Glue LED-bars (we used the color-changing type) to the inner frame of the Aksvit doors.

Step 9: Screws on the backside of the cabinets are used to mount (clip in) the glass doors. The cables of the LED-bars are passed through the holes of the back board. We also covered the holes with white duct tape.

Step 10: First test. Fixation of the work plate. We added an more work space by mounting 3 brackets and a small work plate on the countertop.

Step 11: Fill it up. Here you see, that there was only space for one upper level drawer, as the bottles have to stand upright.

Step 12: Add bar lamps and barstools. Select the LED illumination color to your liking. Done!

Step 3. Get that Dragan up on that wall.

Step 4. Pull out the Fejka plant from the pot it comes with. The original pot won’t fit in the Dragan.

Step 5. Arrange your plants, and enjoy.

A bed that looks like a castle By: Dag

Materials: IKEA Kura bed

Simple hack. All drawings made in Sketchup. You need 3ea 2440x1220mm plywood building plates, a few meters 36x98mm and a few meters 48x48mm. You also need wood glue and misc wood screws.

1. Cut according to measures

2. Drill holes for screws and sand.

3. Assemble both towers. Use drywall screws to attach plates to stands.

4. Attach side panel to towers. Left tower only need a 8x98x1900 panel on right side. Right tower need same type but on left side and then attach the large side panel on right side.

4. Sand again. Use machine and make sure rotational direction will not chip the plywood.

5. Attach right tower to bed. Use 4ea 6x100mm screws. Do not tighten yet.

6. Attach middle plate to bed using drywall screws. Allow plate to slide behind left side panel of right tower. Tighten screws that connect right tower to bed.

7. Attach left tower. Again use 6x100mm screws. You may drill a single hole through metal that hold the bed boards.

8. Attach 48x48mm reinforcements. Fasten to plates with drywall screws. Fasten to bed using 6x100mm screws from top.

9. Attach 36x98mm reinforcement behind middle plate. Position so that it becomes the topmost step in the bed ladder.

10. Attach the crown ornament on middle plate.

11. Sparkle and paint.

You just need:

different acyl colors (water based)

black and brown spray

brushes

and boxes to mix

You start with spraying in the corners

Then you paint the first base (any color) especially in the corners

Then you paint everything (like on the photo)

After that you paint again (when it was dry) with colors like on the photo

For the details you take a brown aryl and you just touch the edges

If you want you can stick first some paper on the ground

or you spray on paper edges to have a special look

I mixed the colors! It was fun!

I will change the doorknobs later
