Two levels kitchen island with Varde cabinet By: Sy

We recently moved into a big house (compared to our previous small apartment) and I wanted to make the most of my old Varde cabinet (the one with 2 drawers and 2 doors).

We needed something for our quick meals and a kid friendly eating zone.

We bought a countertop at our regular hardware store, had it cut in two in order to create an angle around one of the Varde leg (tricky part ! my husband made a sketch for the store, and had to plane it down some more). We then fixed some legs to it and finally attached it to the wooden legs of the cabinet.

We are very happy with the result, and it’s easy to use on a daily basis with the kids.

TV bench from Lack shelf, hiding devices and wires By: Hackvoldli

I can’t stand to look at wires and ugly devices, and couldn’t find a TV bench to my needs. Therefore I transformed a Lack bench. The “doors” are made by stapling four layers of thin curtains to a frame made to fit inside the shelves. This makes it possible to control my devices without having to see them. The feet are from a Sultan bed. Total cost approximately $100.

Hex Key Maze Picture By: Eszter, Switzerland

Materials: NORRLIDA frame, various IKEA hex keys, glue

Description: So we had tons of hex keys of every kind after furnishing our new apartment with IKEA products. I didn’t want to throw them away, so as a minor hack, I created this picture. 1. Remove the glass from the frame. 2. Glue the keys to the white side of the mat. 3. Done. (Of course, the hardest part is to find the right layout of the keys. I can’t provide any instructions about that since everyone has different sets of leftover keys.)

Thrown out your CDs? Here’s something to do with your BENNOs By: Carola

We wanted a sturdy bed that matched the beech-coloured Billy shelves in our bedroom.

So we got hold of 6 secondhand BENNO CD-shelves. We dismantled one of the shelves and cut the side sections down to match the width of our mattress (160cm).

Then we put two BENNOs face down on the floor and built a frame by joining the two side sections onto the tops and bottoms of the two shelves with brackets from the hardware store. Then we laid three more shelves inside this frame at equal distances. We found we didn’t need to attach them at all. Finally, we bought two sets of SULTAN LADE slats and laid these on top. Again, we found we didn’t even need to screw them in place as they don’t slide around. Then we put our mattress on top. Finished!

I wanted a bar / small dining room table in my livingroom. Since I’ve been using a lot of Expedit and Linnmon stuff in the rest of my apartment I decided to keep on using those.

Stuff you’ll need:

Expedit “2×4″

Linnmon 120cm x 60cm

Glasholm 148cm x 73cm

Capita legs 8cm (2 pack, 8legs total)

Screws

Glue (needs to glue metal and plastc together)

(Additional: metalpipe and casters made for hanging metalpipe in wardrobe)

1: Put the Expedit together and place it on the floor (the “backside” facing up”) make sure the shelf is square and lay the glasholm on top… make sure its centered and screw it tight to the shelf with screws (i found screws for made for metal roofing with big metal washers coated with rubber) I used 8 on the longer side and 4 on the shorter sides.

2: Attach the legs on the bottom side (I only used 4, one in each corner… maybe it’s good to attach another pair in the middle if the shelf is going to contain a lot of heavy stuff) make sure to be at least 2 to lift the shelf up and place it on its feet (since you have to lift it up so you don’t brake the legs)

3: Measure where the tabletop is going to be placed. Since the Linmon is 60cm wide and the Expedit is 39cm wide I wanted it to be placed so equal amount of the tabletop is placed on side of the shelf (see picture). Screw legs on bottom of tabletop… one of the Capita legs need to be secured to the shelf (see picture). So take out the black plastic part at the bottom of the leg, glue and screw to the shelf then add glue and press together with the legs attached to the tabletop (the other 3 legs I only used double sided tape to secure)

I found metalpipe and casters to hang those in the roof of a wardrobe at my hardwarestore… used these to create a place to have feets on when sitting down.
