Malm Bed Diagonal Filler Piece By: Jules IKEAHacker

Materials: Malm Bed, 78cm Lack coffee table, 2 Adils Legs. Table saw, drill, screws, screwdriver

Description: Placing a large bed along a wall you tend to create an aisle around it. If instead you place it diagonally on a corner, and four triangular spaces are created, including one behind the bed. This hack need needed to create a removable filler piece behind the Malm queen size bed to make a large platform with hidden storage space underneath. The same technique would also work on a king size bed.

1. Take the top of the 78cm LACK coffee table and saw it diagonally corner to corner.

2. Saw off enough from each corner so the two triangles fit the width of the bed.

3. Using plastic anchors screw three of the Lack legs into the back of the Malm headboard to form a ledge for the tabletop to rest on.

4. Install the Adils legs to the square corners to support the back point.

5. Saw the middle shelf of the Lack coffee table to be a square to fill in the remaining space.

6. Screw the included shelf brackets into the table top and wall.

Everything simply rests in place so that it can be removed to get at the storage space behind the bed

Triple Monitor Stand By: Jules IKEAHacker

Materials: Ekby Jarpen, 4-pack Capita 4″ (x2)

Description: I wanted to raise my monitors up to eye-level, but as I work on a triple monitor setup, the simple monitor stands I’ve seen on Ikeahackers wouldn’t cut it (unless I made one for each). Instead I researched my options and found the Ekby Jarpen shelf would do just nicely at $14.99, spanning just barely wide enough to sit all three of my 21inch monitors with their bases going to the end. Add a few Capita legs and you have a nice space to place your unused keyboard or peripherals under (and hide a set of desktop speakers on their sides even).

It was a simple hack:

Mount a leg at each corner of the shelf.

Mount a leg in the center at the front, and one in the center back.

Then mount another two legs, in the back between center and each corner.

The last 2 legs might be overkill, but I aired on the side of stability and figured I would just have them lying around anyway.

The only caveat was that I found the center monitor would hang slightly over the edge to achieve the slanted setup of monitors I desired, so I ended up remounting the back center leg so that it overhung the back by about 1.5 inches, and added a bunch of scrap wood as a sort of “block” just to give a bit of extra support to the center monitor.

Of course, if I was less picky, then I would have been able to get away without the back support – just shifting the monitor setup to fit the shelf.

The triple monitor stand fits perfectly on my old Malm desk at 47inches wide.

SPONTAN magnets = curtains tie backs By: Dani Nesca

Materials: 1 x SPONTAN magnets, satin ribbon of your choice, SY iron-on fabric tape,

Iron, scissors, tape meter.

Description: Measure 2 pieces satin ribbon, to match the curtain about 30-40 cm, then slide the ends through the hole in the SPONTAN magnets, cut two small pieces SY hem band, and iron shortly at the back side next the hole to glue. DONE, no drilling, no sewing.

You can't really prevent it, you definitely can't stop it altogether, and not only does it take lives and cause the most horrific heartache, but it sucks the victim, and most times their families, completely dry; emotions, time AND money. Did I mention that CANCER SUCKS!?



Okay, there, I just had to get that out of the way because there's no good phrase or sentence for me to use to start this post. And to be honest, when I'm about to get emotional, I turn towards being angry, instead of just being sad... I'm sure that says something about me. lol.

A few weeks ago I was laying in bed flipping through my Instagram feed, when I came across this:

Do you remember Cami's story from our polka dot skirt post/fundraiser in April? and how this sweet little girl was diagnosed with leukemia when she was about 4 years old, and then beat it!? So her wonderful Mom set up a shopping site that sold goods, where a big portion of the proceeds went straight to helping children with cancer? Well... as you can read from the update above, Cami has relapsed and is now fighting for her life a second time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Chelsea, Cami's mom this last year when she popped into a garage sale I was hosting to say hello, and just from the few minutes we were together, I could tell that she was one of the sweetest, strongest women I'd ever have the pleasure of meeting. The interview below, with Cami and her parents that was featured on channel 2, tells the full story about Cami's latest fight.

Want to know what's probably worse than watching someone you love more than anything, suffer all of the trials, pains and afflictions of cancer?...

Having to go through it for a second time.

Description: When we bought our Pax wardrobe, we were on a very tight budget. Since Pax doors are pricey, we decided to do without them. Still, I didn’t want to look at the mess in my wardrobe, so I used an Eivor curtain to hide my clothes instead. I used Sy tape to shorten the curtain and Deka wire to hang it up. Learning Tower with BEKVÄM Stool By: Jules IKEAHacker

Materials: BEKVÄM

Description: I used to get up every morning and make breakfast with my toddler hanging on my legs, begging to be picked up. No more, ever since we hacked a BEKVÄM stool to make a DIY learning tower for her. Now, my toddler can reach the kitchen counter and cook alongside us.

First, we removed the top off the stool and attached four posts to it. And then we added the six side panels (see photos) and a dowel in the back to prevent her from falling out. The whole thing took us only an hour or so! We got all the wood cut by a worker at a home improvement store, so that helped. Last but not least, we gave it a coat of yellow spray paint and then it was ready to be used by an active toddler! More photos and instructions, including measurements, can be found at my blog.

I can’t take credit for this idea, though. I first saw it at here and got the measurements from here.

We plan to make another one for our second girl, who’s still a baby but will become a toddler soon. This is our favorite IKEA hack to date, because it’ll help us teach our girls the love of cooking starting at a young age!

A new place for an old record-player By: Andrea (from Italy)

Materials: Expedit, Lekman, Capita legs

Description: My father had made with his own hands this old record-player many years ago and he still has some LPs (some of them with fairytales that we used to listen to during the 80s). The problem now is that we haven’t a right place to put the old record-player on, also because it has strange dimensions (for an LP-player nowadays).

So I went to an Ikea-store and, after searching among all the furniture (measuring BESTAs, BORGSJOs, ecc..), I opted for a white EXPEDIT single cube (€12,99) with a LEKMAN container (€9,99). The LEKMAN’s dimension (33x33x37) permits to store correctly the LPs, while the EXPEDIT’s dimensions permits to support perfectly our record-player.

And now the hack: it’s nothing so original but I needed to elevate the EXPEDIT cube and couldn’t attach it to the wall; so I bought the CAPITA legs (€8) that are meant for the kitchen FAKTUM serie, and used them at the bottom of the EXPEDIT.

In the photo you can see the result: my parents are very happy to be able to use again the old LP-player.
